INTRODUCING THE ALLEN COLLEGE:
DR. SUBRATA K. BANERJEA
PRINCIPAL
Welcome to the world of complementary medicine in general and homoeopathy
in particular. Homoeopathy uses remedies from a range of natural sources to
heal the whole person and as such, it is both a rational healing art and the
very safest form of medicine.
Throughout my international lecturing career, I have had the privilege of
observing many different homoeopathic colleges in various parts of the
world, and it was through my knowledge of such establishments that I
discovered a very real need for the implementation of Classical Homoeopathic
teaching. By this I mean a study of the old Masters upon which the
foundation of Homoeopathy rests, integrated with modern therapeutic
thoughts. The principles and laws discovered by these Masters are eternal
and time-tested — the Law of Similia (let likes be treated by likes) is an
ideology originally conceived by Hippocrates, the father of medicine, and
later implemented by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homoeopathy; the
Law of Simplex (applying medicines in a single and simple form) and The Law
of Minimum (whereby, the minutest conceivable dose is given in order to
avert side-effects and drug dependency). These are the Laws, which Classical
Homoeopaths adhere to even in the 21st century, and they are the basis upon
which The Allen College of Homoeopathy has been founded. Our teaching
provides a balanced incorporation of these classical time-tested doctrines
together with current homoeo-therapeutic practices, and pays particular
emphasis to the clinical and applied aspects of homoeopathy.
My own family background is of four generations of homoeopaths, and it gives
me immense pleasure and satisfaction to bring this rich legacy of knowledge,
together with over one hundred years of my family’s clinical experience, to
the students of The Allen College. Homoeopathy is a science as well as an
art. It offers a professional career and a motivation to promote nature’s
own law of healing. I welcome you to study this science and art of healing.
Long Live Hahnemann! Long Live Homoeopathy!

WELCOMING PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS:
Mrs. JANET ROBINSON-BANERJEA,
VICE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to the Prospectus of The
Allen College of Homoeopathy.
I first came to Homoeopathy in 1981 and ever since have been keenly
interested in this gentle method of healing.
My involvement with homoeopathic practice and teaching homoeopathy
commenced 10 years later in 1991 when I began my career as a homoeopath
having completed several years of training and post-graduate study. I have
since realised, that a career in homoeopathy is greatly rewarding, and
indeed, a privilege.
My teaching role at the Allen College concentrates primarily on
Homoeopathic Philosophy. I also have a particular interest in the growth
and development of students during the course and this enables me to
directly oversee and facilitate many of the practitioner skills sessions.
The Allen College of Homoeopathy evaluates the education it provides on a
continuous basis and my part in this is to provide the link between the
College and the Society of Homoeopath’s Education Team. I am thereby able
to make a valid contribution to the ongoing work of setting the standards
for homoeopathic education.
If the possibility of being a member of a profession, which is
forward-looking, fulfilling and exciting, is something you are seeking,
then I welcome you. The Allen College provides high quality education with
accessible fees, and as a student, you will play an important part in its
growth and reputation. You will engage with a group of people who are
like-minded and will support and join you in your metamorphosis from
student to practitioner.
I look forward to meeting and working with you.
Yours, In Health, Naturally,
|

CLASSICAL HOMOEOPATHY
“…..Many truths have had their rise, acceptance and
period of sway, followed by a long period of decline and obscurity; but
never has a great truth been lost.….”1
1 Genius of Homoeopathy, Dr. Stuart Close, M.D. (U.S.A).
“.....Homoeopathy is founded upon principles that are in turn founded upon
natural laws. If Homoeopathy is founded upon natural laws, it is as basic
and eternal as the hills; moreover, natural laws were formulated before the
hills came into being. If a man follows where Homoeopathy leads, he must be
able to follow those laws and to hold close to them regardless of the
pressure of influence......”2
“......Homoeopathy treats the sick individual; it is therefore a speciality......”
“Homoeopathy considers the man as a whole, not just his individual parts.
Therefore, primarily Homoeopathy has less appeal for the man of mechanical
bent, for it is this man who makes the best surgeon. Instead, Homoeopathy
offers a gentle way towards health of the entire individual.”3
2,3 Principles and Art of Cure by Homoeopathy, Dr. H. Roberts, M.D. (U.S.A).

Educational
Standard
The homoeopathic and related
education provided by the College is of the highest standard and is based
on recommendations by European Council for Classical Homoeopathy. In
addition, and through its links with the Bengal Allen Medical Institute,
Calcutta (India) the Allen College provides an unique opportunity to
develop advanced clinical skills, which are not commonly available to
other professional homoeopaths in this country.
At the Allen College we are aware of changing requirements both within the
United Kingdom and Europe. We endeavour to embrace these requirements in
line with our fundamental philosophy of training outstanding, skilled,
health care professionals. The College has an established `Student’s
Clinic’, which offers essential clinical training facilities — theory
learnt in the classroom is therefore reinforced in a practical way to
ensure confidence in applying theory to practice. The College is
orientated towards this practical method of training and gives paramount
emphasis on practical experiences for its students.
Clinical Training Programme:
i. Initially students observe live case-taking in the Allen
Clinic. Then progress to participate in case analysis and prescribing.
Later on, students are able to be active in case-taking, prescribing and
case management under the supervision of the clinical director. The
clinics are enjoyable and inspiring as the students have a consistent
exposure to live patients and will fully participates in their treatment.
Students witness the changes and cured cases in the college clinic, which
gives them immense confidence to practise. Experience has shown us that
students begin their patient base and reputation in the third and fourth
years of the course when they begin their own consultations with patients
under constructive supervision.
ii. There is plenty of opportunity for clinical discussion
and clinical and comparative Materia Medica with remedy differentiation
throughout the course.
iii. Students graduate with over 400 hours of clinical
experience.
iv. The course is developed specifically to produce
practising homoeopaths who will be able to set up successful practice.
Practical Training:

continuous and divided into four sections. The Board requires satisfaction
that each student continually achieves the required standard in each.
Section One:
Consists of formal assessment procedures at the end of each three-month
period and at the end of each year, i.e. short tests on Philosophy, Materia
Medica and Medical Sciences will be held.
Section Two:
A continuous assessment of:
i) Assignments.
ii) Participation in discussion.
iii) Patient relationship skills.
iv) Materia Medica knowledge (demonstrated in clinical prescribing
sessions).
v) Knowledge of Philosophy (demonstrated by practical application in cases).
vi) Knowledge of medical science including effects of allopathic drugs
(demonstrated in clinical prescribing sessions).
vii) Knowledge of anatomy and physiology (demonstrated in clinical
prescribing sessions).
Section Three:
Self assessment: students are expected to write a report on themselves at
the end of each academic year which includes a retrospective overview of
their original goals and objectives stated at the commencement of that year.
Section Four:
Peer assessment: a short report by a peer will be included. This will
consist of group work and discussions followed by each student writing a
constructive report for another, which will be evaluated by a tutor.
